Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
At least 10 years of relevant experience in the refining, petro-chemical, or chemical process industry.
Must have a substantial accumulated knowledge and skills in pressure equipment and piping system design.
Must be familiar with solutions to problems that arise during specifications, fabrication, start-up and operations of vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems and storage tanks.
Technical knowledge and skills necessary include beam and plate theory, thermal stress analysis and vibration analysis of non-rotating equipment is required.
Must have a comprehensive working knowledge of ASME, ANSI, TEMA and API and a thorough understanding of the application of the ASME code rules in the design and re-rating of pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
A general understanding of finite element stress analysis and appropriateness of application is required.
Must be knowledgeable of piping flexibility analysis and have experience in using at least one computer program for such analysis.
Skills in systematic problem solving and equipment failure analysis is a must.
Must be capable of directing contractors in the execution of work and in coaching and monitoring of less experienced employees in their development.
Possesses leadership skills and is capable of leading colleagues in the execution of multi-disciplinary technical assignments.
Has the ability to participate in the development of work plans for Specialty Engineering.
Job Description and Responsibilities
Leads the development and maintenance of various fixed equipment and piping equipment with Sipchem Technical Standards.
Oversees implementation of Sipchem Technical Standards on Major Capital Projects and provides interface with Sipchem Reliability and maintenance disciplines.
Provides support to Operating affiliates for trouble shooting of rotating equipment and machinery related problems as a Sipchem standard subject matter expert.
Defines mechanical design requirements consistent with Sipchem Technical Standards for rotating equipment in new chemical process units, including de-bottlenecks, revamps and expansion.
Responsible for maintaining various Sipchem Technical Standards as the technical owner or administrator based on best available technology, best practices and lessons learned.
Participates as a project team engineering specialist on one or more capital projects. Responsible for assuring technical requirements are understood and implemented by the EPC contactors.
Participates as a primary interface between Plant Reliability and Maintenance to ensure appropriateness of equipment selections and to facilitate engagement of assigned focal points in project support functions.
Engaged in engineering design reviews that encompass the review of procedures and techniques used by engineering contractor to assess the validity of the design, specifications, drawings and calculations.
Assists the Sipchem Project Team in the resolution of contractor and supplier equipment design deficiencies should they arise during engineering, procurement, construction or start-up.
Participates on new chemical unit start-up teams by providing on-site equipment and piping consulting as it relates to installation and testing.
Participates in equipment failure analysis, root cause definition and development of corrective actions to prevent future occurrence.
