The Sr. Applications Framework Developer / Designer is a - -“Hands-On -” mission driven role developing the application layer of Clients - -’ online platform and supporting systems.
Play a senior role in development, guiding the architecture, establishing principles and best practices, acting as a resource and mentor in the development team, and interfacing with other senior technologists and senior management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Senior developer in the APPLICATION LAYER of Clients - -’ sophisticated and complex online hosting platform and supporting systems using industry standard technologies.
- Establish the design, architecture, coding and development-quality principles. Streamline processes and automate systems for efficiency. Document applications, systems, best practices and processes.
- Lead analysis, design, and specification, and participate in user interface development, implementation, testing, and ongoing support.
- Code in a fast-paced environment requiring significant output and frequent multitasking.
- Coordinate work efforts and communicate project status, schedules, progress, design issues, and decisions.
- Support online publications, implement enhanced functionality, oversee site updates and design changes, identify problems, and respond rapidly to issues.
- Work independently or as part of dynamic teams on projects that include the design and development of mockups, prototypes, working models and, most importantly, production applications.
- Thoroughly test all work. Develop repeatable test procedures. Solicit feedback before and during development projects, with incorporation of results into next steps.
- Continually assess new technologies, particularly those related to online information technologies and the World Wide Web.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to other staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BSCS or equivalent with 8-10 years of related experience, with 6+ yrs as a senior, principal designer or hands on architect. Broad technical computing background in computer systems, online platforms / technologies, workstation/server systems (Unix/Linux), networking systems and databases.
- Systems / design / architecture expertise.
- In-depth working knowledge of:
- SEMANTIC TECHNOLOGIES including XHTML, XML and XSLT.
- WEB TECHNOLOGIES including CSS and JavaScript.
- COMPILED LANGUAGES including Java.
- SCRIPTING LANGUAGES such as PHP, Perl, Python, or Ruby.
- Established and emerging WEB STANDARDS.
- Relational or Hierarchical DATABASE SYSTEMS.
- Expert in developing interactive web applications, web services, web form data processing/CGI applications, or equivalent.
- Ability to rapidly and deeply internalize a complex platform/codebase. Excellent in multitasking, setting priorities and working under tight deadlines.
- Code output that is a match for anyone on the team.
- Expertise in conceptual, logical and problem solving abilities including troubleshooting with a focus on root cause analysis.
- Successful experience with technical implementation, usability specification, design, testing, usability testing, and analysis of results.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills working effectively with a diverse range of people with varying technical / knowledge levels and backgrounds.
