American Express(1999-2009)
Membership Banking, July, ’99–July, ’01 (Phoenix, AZ): Project Manager responsible for launching innovative online banking capabilities for American Express. Program enabled AXP to expand beyond traditional Card business into Home Equity Installment and Line of Credit offerings that captured $400MM in consumer loan volume by 2004. Responsibilities included:
• End-to-end management of program including: Program development / ideation, Deliverable schedule, Budget, Resourcing, Compliance management, and Problem resolution / escalation
• Led sub-teams focused on customer servicing, balancing, reporting, and portfolio accounting
• Liaison responsibilities with PNC Bank, AXP’s primary external partner on the program
• Delivery of main program on schedule, slightly under budget, and with few post implementation issues
• Successfully managed numerous projects across mainframe and distributed systems outside of main initiative
Cardmember Fee Services, August ’01–November ’02 (New York, NY): Senior Manager responsible for application development activities in support of American Express’ Consumer Cardmember Fee Services group. Responsibilities included:
• Participating in the establishment of annual strategic objectives for American Express’ Fee Service-related technical offerings and capabilities in support of 5MM+ cardmember base
• Financial management and program reporting for $4mm-$5mm portfolio of 30-40 projects
• Led the development of the ROC Based Billing initiative. This initiative involved two multi-million dollar releases to establish new component to enable greater flexibility to roll out new products and faster compliance with changes in various state and federal insurance regulations. Main interfaces that had major development were several financial capture, enrollment, reporting, and ledger systems.
• Management of cost estimation, prioritization, resourcing, establishment of key deliverable milestones, and funding mechanisms for strategic technical projects
• Serving as primary technical liaison between business and corporate technology stakeholders for all high-priority technical problem resolutions
Global New Accounts, December ’02–July ’09 (Miramar, FL): Technology Director for application development for Global New Accounts(GNA), Responsibilities included:
• Establishing the annual development priorities for the Global Data Handling Utility as well as the Acquisition Tracking System component in collaboration with, and in response to, the business needs of Marketing, Risk Management, Compliance, and Corporate Technology partners
• Managing an annual portfolio of 50-70 projects with a development budget of $4MM-$6MM across both distributed and mainframe operating environments
• Managing a staff of 50-80 internal and outsourced technical resources. These were global development teams with several sites in India, Toronto, Uruguay as well as American Express groups in NYC, Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City, Miramar, and various other U.S. sites.
• Driving Re-engineering efforts responsible for average realized annual cost savings of $1.1mm over 5 year period
